Want to Stay Active? Stay in Colorado!

It’s probably no surprise that Colorado is home to some of the healthiest people in the U.S. Our climate, sunny days, Rocky Mountains as well as our many rivers and lakes allow for a multitude of outdoor enjoyment options.

However, since many individuals 60+ may have already retired their kayaks, climbing ropes and skis, they could be at risk of sedentary lifestyles similar to those in other states.

Fortunately, research indicates Colorado is one of the healthiest states for ALL ages, and especially for older individuals.

A study by Seniorly found that Colorado was ranked in the top 10 of states for five out of six health benchmarks:

  • Fewest physically inactive seniors: 20.9% (rank #1)
  • Population living within 1/2 mile of a park: 82.3% (rank #4)
  • Gyms and fitness centers: 107 per 100,000 seniors (rank #4)
  • Older individuals in good or excellent health: 80.7% (rank #5)
  • Life expectancy at 65: 19.1 years (rank #10)

Additional research from the 2026 SmartAsset study on America’s Most Active Seniors by SmartAsset.com,  ranked Colorado 6th as having the most active older adult population. This study used different benchmarks, such as exercise, gardening and travel.

Whichever research is more pertinent, it’s encouraging to see that living in Colorado promotes healthy aging on many fronts.

Taking this a step further, we want to highlight that Kavod Senior Life -right in the heart of Denver in Colorado – falls right in line with these studies, providing both Assisted Living and Senior Living residents a wealth of wellness and health opportunities, including:

  • Outdoor gardening with raised garden beds

  • An on-site medical clinic in partnership with CU Medicine with both physical and mental health professionals
  • A full Health & Wellness Center with a gym, therapy and more
  • Opportunities to volunteer and engage in lifelong learning

In fact, Kavod Senior Life has been recognized with multiple awards for its campus and top staff leaders for its wellness prowess from the International Council on Active Aging and NuStep, LLC.
